American Bank Allows Cheque Deposits by iPhone
Apple, News — By Paul Smith on August 10, 2009 at 16:34
Mobile banking is something that’s been with us for a while now, but beyond checking our balances and maybe paying bills or transferring money it hasn’t advanced much. Well now an American bank is allowing iPhone users to deposit checks by taking a picture of the front and back of the cheque with their handset and sending it to the bank using the bank’s iPhone app.
It’s a novel idea to be sure and a step towards a cashless-paperless society. Of course this is one bank in one country, but hopefully it starts a trend. Giving customers more options and reducing the clutter and paper usage is all good in our book. The problem many will have with such services of course is security, but then what banking transaction can be totally secure?
