Free iPhone Shipping: Apple Trying to Shift Stock?

Apple, News — By Paul Smith on May 14, 2009 at 13:06

iphoneEfforts to reduce stock of the iPhone 3G ahead of the much presumed launch of a new iPhone moved up a gear with Apple announcing that iPhones ordered directly from them will be posted out for free (within the U.S.). This comes hot on the heels of O2’s launch in the UK of a new range of two year tariffs for the iPhone that see the handset being given away free. Both of these initiatives can really only be seen in one kind of light: a desire to sell as much of the remaining stock of the current iPhone as possible. A new iPhone would of course steal the limelight so these sort of moves are not unexpected. Whilst Apple are offering free postage they aren’t actually reducing the price of the iPhone … yet. With at least two months still to go before the launch of a new iPhone there is still plenty of time for the current iPhone to receive a hefty price cut to entice anyone looking for a bargain.
