Is This the Most Pathetic App Store Rejection Excuse?

Apple, News — By Paul Smith on August 24, 2009 at 15:44

TweetPhotoJust when you think Apple can’t get any more asinine in its App Store rejection excuses they go and top themselves again! This time the unfortunate app is TweetPhoto, an app that allows Twitter users to upload and share photos. The reason for its rejection? Are you ready for this?

It’s logo looks like a Polaroid. Seriously. Yes really, I am being serious. Apparently the logo TweetPhoto uses looks so similar to a Polaroid that Apple thinks Polaroid, who have complained about similar issues in the past, will be up in arms. So basically Apple and Polaroid apparently think that people are so stupid that they will see a cartoon rendering of a photograph and immediately confuse it with a Polaroid photo and all manner of confusion will result.

Let’s take a look at the logo in question:

TweetPhoto Logo

Do you see the little rendering of the photo with the two birds on the right hand side? Now were you confused as to TweetPhoto’s relationship with Polaroid? Quite frankly looking at that logo the word ‘Polaroid’ doesn’t even pop into my head unless someone consciously points out a vague similarity between this generic rendering of a photograph and the style of Polaroid photos.

Apple’s official rejection letter stated:

We’ve reviewed TweetPhoto and determined that we cannot post your application because it appears to include features that resemble Polaroid photographs. Polaroid has previously objected to other applications that include features that resemble Polaroid photographs, and believes that such features infringe its rights.

In a word … lame!
