Symbian Foundation to Drop Java?

symbian-drops-javaThe future of Java seems rather grim right now, as it is on the verge of being exluded from the forthcoming version of the widely popular Symbian mobile operating system. As stated on the Symbian blog, the slow pace of innovation and the “fragmented” implementation isn’t too attractive to developers. For instance, Microsoft has never shipped Java as a standard in WinMo, the iPhone app store enjoys wholly Java-less content and Android deploys the Dalvik virtual machine instead. So, generally, Java isn’t what it used to be – and the developers of Symbian Foundation find it a redundant component. Nothing is sure at this stage, though.
