Video: Windows Mobile 6.5 Final Build

Video, Windows Mobile — By Paul Smith on August 3, 2009 at 22:12

Windows Marketplace 02Here we have a video of the final build of WinMo 6.5, or as it will soon be known ‘Windows Phone’. The video shows off various bits and bobs that anyone who’s been following the progress of WinMo 6.5 will already be familiar with so let’s skip straight to the new stuff.

It isn’t so much new features that are interesting here as the commentary. For one thing it looks pretty dire for those hoping to see multi-touch making an appearance in 6.5. Instead they would probably be better looking towards the much anticipated Windows Mobile 7. There’s also the claim that 6.5 and 7 will be supported concurrently, which is lent credence by the recent announcement that WinMo is to have a name change to Windows Phone to reduce customer confusion with different version numbers.

Also of interest is the comments made about Windows Phone eventually offering all the features found in rival platforms. That’s a pretty big claim to make, especially if 6.5 won’t have multi-touch support. Of course we’d love to see it as it gives the consumer more choice, but Microsoft still have some way to go on that front.
